Michael Sabbeth and fellow Vintager John Coombe recently visited Black Canyon Wings and Clays shooting and hunting preserve in Delta, on Colorado’s Western Slope, about an hour’s drive from Grand Junction.. The region is renowned for its soul-stirring beauty and hunting and fishing and some tasty wine.
The 760-acre facility is owned by Rick and Hanneke Nelson. The property, purchased in 1994, features about thirty distinct hunting fields on 350 acres of carefully cultivated land most conducive to pheasant, grouse and chukar partridge. The hunting experience is first rate, and the folks that operate it are better yet.
Please see Michael Sabbeth’s article on his hunt at Black Canyon, available on- line on the Shotgun Life website, www.shotgunlife.com found with this link:

MW Reynolds has a fine selection of hard to find shooting clothes for women ... hats, jackets, shooting shirts, etc.
These are the perfect holiday presents for any female shooting friends you may have ...
Oh, and did I mention the two Hollands in the shop plus the recent Browning collection which came in?
Probably time to go browse on South Broadway.

Vintagers:
This past Fall at the August Game Feast at Quail Run ... Al Salzman was showing folks his 1915 Gew Mauser.
Someone else said he had a cleaning rod that might fit this rifle!
Who was that person? Please contact Al at: smc@ipa.net
Al would like to speak with you!
Thanks for everyone's help.
To the Mauser trigger,
Bruce Koranski
MW Reynolds in Denver now has 2.5 inch RST shells in stock. RST's have always been my favorite store bought shorties as they are low PSI.
Mark also now has a superlative selection of Purdey ties, shirts, etc. Beautiful stuff for when you want to "look good."
To the well stocked trigger,
Bruce Koranski

There is now a Metro Denver Chapter of Pheasants Forever and they can be found at www.metrodenverpheasantsforever.org.
Their plan is to focus very heavily on youth activities including hunting, shooting, dog-handling, etc. and not simply pheasant hunting. Registration forms and other information are available at the website.

THOMAS HORSLEY, GUNMAKER OF YORK
By D.J. BAKER
For nearly forty years, I have collected, logged and shot with Horsley guns. As a result, I have made friends round the world and found the living descendants of the family, who hold some of the firm’s records.
To be published in September, the book has 216 pages, 300mmx225mm, (11.75ins.x 8.875ins.) with 189 colour photographs plus black & white images and line drawings. Fourteen chapters cover the story of the firm from its founding in Doncaster in the 1830s to its demise in York in the 1950s; chapters devoted to cartridge loading tools, the punt gun, the alarm gun and Horsleys’ involvement with the motor car. There are a series of appendices, two of which are reproductions of Horsley catalogues. In its heyday in the 1860s and ‘70s, Thomas Horsley & Son built guns of superb quality in workshops behind 10, Coney Street, York for customers who graced the nobility and squirarchy of Yorkshire. Ownership of one of these guns seems to have been an expression of local pride.
Thomas Horsley, Gunmaker of York will be retailed at a price of £49.95, however, at the moment, neither the weight of the book nor details of new U.K. postal charges are known, so it is not possible to quote for postage.
If you would like to be contacted with full details when the book is available, please get in touch.

If neither book is of interest to you, please do not bin this note. Pass it on to someone who may be interested. Distribution is the self-publishing author’s greatest challenge!
Thank you,
David.
